- Find a private place to make a call.
- Dial 519-751-3471.
- A worker will answer and say “answering service for the Sexual Assault Centre crisis line”. This isn’t a counsellor, you can talk to her, but she will ask for your name and phone number.
- Give you name (or a fake name) and your real phone number so you can get a call back from a volunteer.
- In less than ten minutes a volunteer from the crisis line will call you back.
- You can talk to her.
What to talk about….
- You can talk about anything to do with sexual assault or sexual abuse.
- You can talk about how to keep safe from sexual assault.
- You can talk about dating or sex.
- If you have been sexually assaulted or sexually abused you can tell your whole story, or just a part.
- You can talk about reporting to the police or going to the hospital if you need to.
- You can talk about something that happened in the past or something that just happened.
- You can talk about your feelings if you want to.
What the crisis line volunteer can do….
- She can help you make a plan to stay safe or to get safe.
- She will listen to what you need and help in any way she can.
- She will tell you it is not fault if you were sexually abused or assaulted.
- She can give you ideas for getting through tough times to help you with your feelings.
- She can give you information about your rights and explain how to get more help.
- She will keep what you say confidential.
- If there is a child in danger, she will get help for them.
